Surf Spots

Tucked in along the coast, just north of Santa Barbara, CA, is a little state park whose name means refuge.  It's a quiet place with palm trees, camping spots and a small point that "never" breaks.  I put the word in quotes because in more than 40 years of passing by in a car or boat, I've never seen it break.

I know it does.  Others have told me so.  But until recently, I could never attest to it.  Now I can.

Once you hit this spot on the right swell, you'll love it.  A nice break peels off the point and wraps into a shallow cove.

On this April day, the sets were running 3-4 feet, neat and tidy.  A little crowded with 15-20 surfers in the water, there were still plenty of fun waves--enough of them so that you didn't have to share.

During my long drive from San Diego to Monterey, the hour+ I spent in the water proved this definitely as a refuge.
